The readers of AUTO BILD ALLRAD also like sporty sedans: They chose the Alfa Romeo Giulia as one of the winners in the "AUTO BILD ALLRAD Car of the Year 2022" competition. The model version of the Alfa Romeo Giulia equipped with the efficient all-wheel-drive Alfa Q4 won the import ranking in the category "all-wheel drive cars over 50,000 euros".
"Being voted '4WD Car of the Year' in its category is certainly a surprising accolade for the Alfa Romeo Giulia. This is precisely why we are particularly proud of this verdict by the readers of AUTO BILD ALLRAD. It shows the enthusiasm of German car fans for the perfect combination of Italian design and both sporty and safe handling, with which the Alfa Romeo Giulia stands out from the mass of vehicles in this category," commented Niccolò Biagioli, Country Director Alfa Romeo.
In the "AUTO BILD ALLRAD Car of the Year 2022" competition, all-wheel-drive vehicles in Germany were judged in nine categories by the readers of what claims to be Europe's largest all-wheel-drive magazine. Domestic and imported car models were evaluated separately.
The Alfa Q4 all-wheel-drive system in the Alfa Romeo Giulia efficiently distributes engine torque between the front and rear axles, depending on the driving conditions and the level of grip of each tire. Under normal conditions, the engine power is entirely transmitted to the rear axle via the cardan shaft made of carbon fiber, which reduces consumption. Only when the rear wheels start to slip is up to 60 percent of the torque diverted to the front axle in fractions of a second.
This strategy ensures superior driving performance, unsurpassed driving pleasure with quick and controllable vehicle reactions, and a high level of safety in all situations. All-wheel-drive can be combined with the Alfa Q2 self-locking mechanical differential, which effectively counteracts rear wheel spin when accelerating on roads with changing grip conditions.
Two engines are available for the Alfa Q4 all-wheel-drive versions of the Alfa Romeo Giulia: a 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine with 206 kW (280 hp) and a 154 kW (210 hp) turbo diesel with 2.2 liters displacement.
All-wheel drive fans can also choose from the standard equipment versions VELOCE and Ti as well as the unique model Alfa Romeo ESTREMA, which places exceptionally high value on stylistic balance and excellent driving dynamics. The Alfa Romeo Giulia ESTREMA offers as standard, among other things, the active chassis Alfa Active Suspension, the electronic chassis control (Alfa Chassis Domain Control), and the limited-slip differential Alfa Q2. The linked systems automatically adapt to the road conditions and the selected Alfa DNA vehicle dynamics control mode. Together with the 19-inch wheels, this configuration increases the efficiency of the Alfa four-wheel driveQ4 even further.
